Love. This. Song.

This happens every couple of years. Someone mentions Three Dog Night and then I get this song stuck in my head, and wish people listened to the Elvis version more.

It's impossible for me to sit at my desk and watch this in silence. I start shaking, and my lungs vibrate with life, like I have a mangling, vital addiction to bomb-ass hooks, bellowing lyrics and sequined tuxedos.

We rented a car for the trip home from New Orleans instead of taking the train, riding the Blues Highway up from Nola to Chicago, stopping in Memphis for a couple of hours. Graceland was closed. Of course we did Beale Street, saw the Lorraine Motel...

More days of my life deserve to be devoted to Memphis.

I definitely need to go back and hit up Graceland. Not that I'm the biggest Elvis fan or something, but sometimes? Motherfucker owns.

Oh, man. I have never heard the Elvis version of this. LOVE IT. I love his band, too. Listen to the live version of "Suspicious Minds" sometime, and hear the bassist. They go through the chorus, like, 17 times in a row, and the bassist just rocks the whole time like you wouldn't believe. Bass also rocks on "A Little Less Conversation."

I love Elvis.

Your New Orleans posts are awesome.

Elvis always rules. Bow down. And buy the Elvis Live At Madison Square Garden album for all the good godness. He really was the King. Always will be. Another beautiful tragedy.

I've never heard that song till right now. And now, I don't know if I'll ever get it out of my head. And I'm cool with that.

Graceland was the shit.

He

Lived

There.

And there is carpet on the ceiling. It's such tacky goodness! I'll stop before I spoil the fun . . .

I love Elvis. He's not one I listen to all the time, but I'm with you. He's a legend for a reason.

hoyt axton wrote it... but this version rocks. captures what was good about elvis. that'd be the pipes... man became a complete mess, but damn, he could sing.

I was born the day Elvis died. The EXACT day... nearly the same damn time.

I think it stands to reason that I am the fucking King.

Not a huge Elvis fan either, but seriously? There's a reason the man was dubbed.

I've been meaning to visit Memphis. I know a couple of RAD chicks there- we hung out in Cincinnati for a few days and they promised to show me around all the touristy places if I came to visit. I want to see where Elvis rocked the hizouse!

Damn. And I like you. But Elvis makes me twitch in a bad, OCD, "make it stop" kind of way.

I saw a drunk clown making balloon animals at the bar at the Peabody one Sunday morning. Memphis has its bright spots, for sure.

I came back to listen to it again... That sweaty, sequined mother fucker can wail.

Erin: Live Elvis, to me, completely dominates pre-recorded Elvis. And I immediately Youtubed Suspicious Minds - thank you.

Photo-John: Tragedies have a tendency to be beautiful, don't you think?

Ginny: Good, because that song fucking rules. I sang it on Saturday for karaoke, and the entire time all I could think was, "Oh my god. I am singing this song. I am singing this song. I want to sing this song every day."

Free Man: I dominated some barbecue, and I plan on doing it again once I get the chance.

Mount: Going back is on the list of things to do. I have do. It hurts that I didn't get the chance.

Daisyfae: I knew that it wasn't a Three Dog Night original, but it makes sense that I couldn't name the original author. Because I have no idea who that is. After intensive googling, however, I discovered that he also wrote a bunch of other songs for Three Dog Night...so thank you. Trivial Pursuit? I own you.

Boomer: I can feel that about you. You're special. Besides, you smell like royalty.

Le Meems: I bet "Joy to the World" plays in peoples' heads as you walk down the street.

Ambiblob: After spending a whole four hours there, I get the feeling that only rad chicks live in Memphis.

Mia: Ah, what do you know anyway. Who needs you.

Franklin: I am a drunk clown, so...there you go.

Blues: Love that guy.
